In recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1st, WindRose Health Network announces a week of free, confidential HIV screenings across its facilities to support community health and awareness.
According to the Indiana Department of Health's 2023 HIV Data Report, approximately 13,000 Indiana residents are living with HIV/AIDS, with nearly 400 new cases diagnosed annually. Communities of color and LGBTQ+ individuals continue to be disproportionately affected, representing over 60% of new diagnoses.
Understanding your HIV status is a fundamental part of maintaining not just your personal health, but also fostering healthy intimate relationships. “According to NIH it is estimated that 40% of new diagnoses of HIV are transmitted by people who were not aware of the HIV status. Screening for HIV is extremely important. Screening not only saves one's life but also saves the life of your partner and children. Early diagnosis and treatment for HIV can lead to a healthy and longer life," says Dr. Odeta at WindRose Health Network.
Free, confidential screenings will be available at the following locations and times:
- December 2: WindRose Franklin Center (8 AM - 5 PM)
- December 3: WindRose Hope Center (8 AM - 5 PM)
- December 4: WindRose Trafalgar Center (8 AM - 5 PM)
- December 5: WindRose Epler Parke (8 AM - 5 PM)
No appointment is necessary. All screenings include:
- Rapid HIV testing with results in 20 minutes
- Confidential counseling and education
- Connection to care and support services if needed
- Information about PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)
Those at elevated risk for HIV infection include:
- Men who have sex with men
- Transgender individuals
- People who inject drugs
- Sexual partners of HIV-positive individuals
- Individuals with multiple sexual partners
Early detection and treatment of HIV can lead to better health outcomes and prevent transmission to others. Today's HIV treatments are more effective than ever, allowing people living with HIV to maintain undetectable viral loads and live long, healthy lives.
